The Capital One Quicksilver Card is a standard, no frills, cash back card. It does not have a bunch of multipliers that you need to keep track of. The intro bonus is easy to hit, and it has a couple niche benefits that can be useful. In this blog post, we'll dive into the key features, benefits, and rewards structure of the Capital One Quicksilver Card.

How it Earns
  • 5% on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Travel

  • 1.5% on everything else

The cash back structure is easy to follow. If you book hotels or rental cars through the Capital One Travel portal you get 5% back. On all other purchases you get 1.5% back.

What it Earns
  • Reward Cash

Reward Cash very straightforward. Your account continues to build up Reward Cash as you spend, and whenever you desire, you can cash out the Reward Cash for a statement credit on your card.

How to Redeem
  • Cash Back

  • Travel through Capital One Travel

  • Redeem with PayPal

  • Shop with Amazon

  • Gift Cards

Reward Cash does not have a minimum redemption amount. That means if you only have $2.73 of Reward Cash available, you can go ahead and feel free to redeem the $2.73 for a statement credit. If you would rather stockpile your Reward Cash until you have $100 available, you can go ahead and do that as well. Although there are multiple ways to redeem your Reward Cash, my suggestion is to redeem for cash back as a statement credit. Rather than redeeming for a $25 gift card, which would not earn you any new points, it makes more sense to spend $25 at the store, then redeem your points for a $25 statement credit. This way you are are still getting 1.5% back on the purchase.

Benefits
  • Uber One membership ($60 value)

    • 6 months free

    • Valid through November 14, 2024

  • The Cultivist Membership ($240 value)

    • 6 months free

    • Free museum access, art classes, & insider tips

  • No foreign transaction fees

This card comes with 6 months of free Uber One membership. This will come in the form of a $9.99 monthly credit when you charge a monthly membership to your Capital One Quicksilver. The Cultivist Membership can be a really cool benefit for the right situation. I can see it being valuable if you plan on taking a vacation in an area with a lot of museums. If you are also interested in art classes it can make sense. Worst case you can try it for free for 6 months and then cancel. Finally, no foreign transaction fees is not uncommon, but it is a nice feature to have, especially if you are looking for this to be your first card.

Annual Fee

  • $0

This card has no annual fee. This makes it a great card to keep long term.

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • 5% on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Travel

  • Simple 1.5% on everything

  • Uber One Membership

  • No foreign transaction fees

Cons

  • Other cards have higher than 1.5% minimum return

  • No 5% on flights through Capital One Travel

Depending on your credit card setup, having the option to get 5% back on hotels and rental cars can be valuable. Also, the simple 1.5% on everything else makes things easy. There is no thinking required. You know you are going to be getting 1.5% back.

How I Use It
  • Intro Offer

  • Only for Uber One membership

I personally only got this card for the intro offer. I am currently taking advantage of the Uber One Membership, but after the 6 months comes to an end, this card will no longer be in my rotation. That being said, this card can be useful as a first credit card, or just as a simple 1.5% on everything card. If you are interested in this card, I would recommend looking at the Chase Freedom Unlimited instead because that card comes with 1.5% back on everything as well, but also has some other multipliers that the Quicksilver does not. If you already have the Freedom Unlimited, the Quicksilver intro bonus I discuss below is worth taking advantage of.

How I Use Reward Cash
  • Cash Back

Cash back rewards are so simple, I do not have much to add here. I do not have any rhyme or reason as to when I redeem my Reward Cash. Every so often I will check how much I have available and proceed to redeem it for a statement credit.

Intro Bonus
  • $200 Cash Bonus

    • After spending $500 in first 3 months

  • 0% APR for 15 months

    • Only on purchases

If you are looking to apply for this card, click here and it can help us both out. Make sure you check out Capital One's website to ensure you are getting the best possible intro bonus. Thanks!
